Journal, News, Guests by Jim Fitting

Thanks Bernie!

World leaders have just announced that an agreement has been reached in Copenhagen. From Tuvalu to Nepal, from the richest nations to the poorest, people will be moved to give thanks, while most continue oblivious and others will shake their heads and throw up their hands. Who knows what will come of this, or from the Kabuki stage that doubles as a mud wrestling pit that we call the US congress.
Regardless, this is a time of diminished expectations in the political sphere that's for sure,
and it behooves us to pause and be thankful for what we do have...
Bernie Sanders for example. Where would we be without him? He just became the first senator ever to propose a single payer amendment for healthcare to the US Congress. Thank you sir! Nice try...
And then there is Montpelier VT, the state capitol where he keeps his offices; it is unlike any other place on earth that we know. Thanks to Zoe and Eric who put us up on our last visit there and showed us the proper attire for a good game of Dungeons and Dragons: chain mail anyone?
To Chris Pappas for knowing two thirds of the lyrics to every song by America (the band) that we had forgotten on purpose. And for singing them in the van with full air guitar accompaniment.
To Ry for coming back from Ireland so we could play some Session gigs, Damn it!
To Freddy for singing about the San Francisco bay, and Mia Dyson for singing about Roy Estrada way back in his truck driving days. Thank you.
To Sean, for singing. And David Wax for coming down with his girlfriend and a donkey jawbone, which when she hit it just right rattled every tooth strangely in time.
Thanks to Kimber for playing Dinty's fiddle and making it sound good, we know it wasn't easy.
To Brendan Hogan for showing up so we could tell him how much we missed his Blues After Hours show on Saturday nights which WGBH recently cancelled. However we are not thankful for the resulting expansion of their news talk format. And that makes us even more thankful for the WHRBs, WMBRs, WZBCs and even WUMBs of the world that have shows where the DJs actually choose the music that is played over the air...and one more for my baby and one for the road. Here's to college girls and the devil's right hand, scoops of ice cream for shots and jimmies on top.
We three kings, Merry, Peter, Melissa Ferrick and Robert Earl Keane. Don't forget Matt and Dube, Gretel and Christmas at Passim. And especially all you all for showing up and helping us get paid, or just staying and watching when we played.
Thank You.
