So Sorry Saratoga!

Yes, we had to cancel our show at Cafe Lena on Sunday. And so you think to yourself: Oh! I am sure they have a good excuse. Well, we were lost in the swamps of (wait for it)...
New Jersey!
Yes, six grown men armed with the i-phone and GPS were lost in central Jersey in a town called Manville. (How ironic).
When we asked the man on the street walking his dog, he could not tell us how to get out of his town. And as much as we hate to make light of the fact that we stood up a lot of people who bought tickets and came down to see us, the situation was pretty ridiculous. We were driving around in circles so long I nearly finished War and Peace. It was not the downed trees and power-lines, but the water. We are not sure if they have sewers in that part of Jersey but we are damn sure they don't know how to make a good sign. How about "ROAD CLOSED" in bold type? Nope. But they do have plenty of orange cones and plenty of water...You have never seen so many illegal u-turns through puddles in your life. It was bedlam, us and about ten thousand other cars trying to figure out where to go. And once we got across to a major road that headed north, we couldn't turn left onto it because the signals were out and they had the intersection blocked with you guessed it: orange cones. So we had to drive south for a while and re-visit our previous conversations and bad jokes from two hours before: "There's Carvel's Ice Cream where they have Cookie 'O Puss for St. Patrick's Day". (Ry's very big on Irish jokes these days).
We were heading north from Easton Maryland, and no it wasn't because of Daylight Savings Time that we were running late. (I actually woke Ry and Bill up an hour early because of a "technical glitch'). On that morning we set out properly cafeinated and on time.
But at this point we should pause and thank Suzy and the staff of the Stolz Listening Room/Avalon Theater in Easton for a great night. And of course a big shout out to the boisterous Annie Watts and her Los Lobolicious Hohner accordian; who helped fill the place with even more boisterous fans. These were the folks who kept yelling for Dinty to play the fiddle. (Boy did they get what they asked for). And what is is about Rose Polenzani songs and these sessioneers? We ended up playing Queen Anne's Lace with the nice English girl who runs the ticket office.
Well we don't want to rub it in but we had a pretty terrific time there in Maryland, but somehow, someway we couldn't make it north on time.
Saratoga, please accept our sincerest apology.
