hush puppies and hospitality.

We finally made it to Saratoga Springs (after a traffic jam or two), and during the racing season no less. And we were just about in time to place a bet on Careless Love in the fourth, (it was the way she came out of the paddock is what Greg Rahal said) We also had time for some southern fried chicken and a mint julep next door, so that when it came time to play we were packed like the cafe Lena. Yes packed, with Mr Beard and Bonnie and maybe a cousin or two, and whoever else might have come from wherever like Jed from Cambridge past and some even from Montpelier. Not Doreen (she's from Burlington). But it was close, like Cambridge on a Thursday night but without the pints. And not as loud because they have Mr Quiet on the table cards saying Shsss... Ain't it a fine line? Not so much, but who's shushing who anyway? Heck we played the Driving and they might have wished for a pint, but it was still pretty rowdy with just tea and cookies and forget the frozen yogurt.
Ah back on the road with sessshion. We had plenty of hospitality the previous Wed in North Truro with the wind and the spiders to keep us company. In fact we called it the hospitality death tent experience amongst the abandoned air base barracks with sharp pieces of steel at eye level...there was pizza and a palater (a cross between the crappy supermarket vegetable platter and the usual palaver) in the semi tent back stage. But it still was a beautiful evening as we played Lighthouse Light and Diving For Gold, I Can't Get Out and Amelia too, thinking about the cold war radar towers abandoned and sunk 110 miles out to sea. And the wind thumped the canvas and the daddy long-legs walked and no one said ssshh.
What is this we are hung up about. Shush? So things get a little loud. Guess a shut-up! over the PA system is pushing it. When we are like a junko partner knocked out loaded at the Lizard with Dr John and the pleasure society making Mass ave a part every time (well this past Thursday and Friday) and that shit ain't quiet. Who are we to complain?  Yankee Money or not, Raglan Road rocks. On Thursday night with Sarge sitting in on Chaka Kahn and Rose Living in the Country, Borges and Brewer beautiful on I Can't Help it If I'm still in Love with You (Congrats you two!) Sheesh and Conway just in the crowd is alright with us. We're still optimistic, like Kimon sang on Friday. And it did get loud. Wicked loud. And that was kind of cool at the end of the night.
Thanks.
