Too Much Time

Too much time. That's like all the water under the bridge, the eddies and backwaters , the rapids and snags that took us places we never expected to be.
Too much time said the surrealist romantic Don Van Vliet (in his most commercial voice) when trying to forge a hit with Ted Templeman. (What do Captain Beefheart and Van Halen have in common?) "Sometimes when it's late and I'm a little bit hungry, I heat up an old can of beans, open up a can of sardines, keep practicing dreams about someone to cook for me. I've got too much time to be without love." There just aren't enough dadaist blues shouters/painters in the world today. And he's still telling Frank about the blimp.
Too much time and now winter has overtaken us. It doesn't seem like time enough to describe all that holiday magic. Sometimes we were in a basement with one hundred or so of our closest friends keeping warm. Sometimes we might have been stumbling through songs we had forgotten, or just letting the "Woofa Goofa" Wolf take over the table. We were startled for a moment by an Irish harp appearing on stage strummed by Maeve Gilchrist, and just sort of amazed in general at Jocie Adams. Duke brought down an electric guitar (and one pedal), Laura brought her fiddle. Oh it is a long list of all those that have warmed our hearts. Pohida was channeling The Gap Band at Passim with Borges and Rose, and then there's Amy Correiea and her powder blue Trans Am.
Too much time ran out on Camp St., but we got in just under the wire. In one of the last sessions there we were recording tracks for a new cd called "AM Gold" Well who knows what it will be, but didn't that place used to be called Fort Apache? Now that's some water under the bridge...but we will miss Paul Q K and Adam Taylor and Alex behind the board there in the old Rounder Records building. Whoa who's starting to show his age now?
       Too much time!
