El grand noche de elecciones

...there was the gnashing of teeth and the rending of garments, and a great howling could be heard from the wilderness of Fox news.
Here there was dancing in the streets. On CNN Wolf Blitzer interviewed a hologram of will i.am; while downstairs at the Lizard a resurrected Lady Bird Johnson was updating our electoral map, which was being projected on the wall by the bar as we sang Taxes on the Farmer, Burn It Down and How Many More Years.
Such a night.
A tear started in the corner of many an eye, perhaps a moment of pride, relief, or maybe that round of tequila that just went down. Watching 100 thousand shouting "Yes we can" into the Chicago night... November 4th, 2008. There were echoes of Aretha singing down the canyons of memory. A chain of fools...
Unforgettable echoes of 1968 and MLK on the mountaintop, we were scared and incredulous that the hope that had been buried so long ago could really be exhumed. Hope against hype...
So we went back downstairs. Sean sat down at a table away from the lights and started singing a gospel tune. Before you knew it there was a string trio playing Eleanor Rigby with my croaking in the dark like it was redemption. Ry was at one table, and Stroker was playing accordion at another, and for a moment it seemed anything was possible! We had three tables working, as he sang What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding?
When Studs Terkel recently said "Today amnesia is much easier to come by." it had the ring of truth.; but maybe things have begun to change after a long dark night.
"I remember when John Brown died."
And I will never forget this balmy November night...
