A View from Brooklyn or What the Jamcam Saw

oh what a tangled web we weave when we endeavor to rewrite history...
ABC, Cheney and Mr. Chimp all have the power to tangle and confuse our collective memories. And today, five years later; who controls the narrative? And who is shaking their head like me.
It is not unlike looking at a road map of greater NYC. Yes Session Americana drove down to Brooklyn this past weekend for a gig at the unique, almost miniature, but definitely european Barbes on Park Slope. And yes we spent some time pondering the map and listening to the AM to hear what the jamcam saw. We avoided the BQE and took the FDR, looping onto the Brooklyn Bridge as the sun set over that big hole in Manahattan behind us. We never did find Flatbush Ave., but we were luckier than some of the band whohad left earlier than us and found traffic jams aplenty...
It did look a little bleak as showtime approached in the nearly empty club; but Bill's wife Jen rallied us right quick waving her credit card around down at the single malt end of the bar. And that place fills up fast when 8pm rolls around. A Stella Artois or two later we had talked about "Taxes" and "The Shape I'm In". We had felt "Hickory Wind" and carried "Something Heavy", saw "Mama" and admitted that "He'll Have To Go"... Thanks to Jennifer's cousin Nate for sitting in on keyboards for the last couple of tunes. Yes keyboards. He switched from pump organ on "John Brown" to piano on the encore. Whichbrings up an unsettling trend, we played encores two night in a row. What is going on here?
On Friday evening we played a benefit concert in Cambridge for the Planned Parenthood League of Mass. We set up in a lovely backyard as evening settled over us. We lit up the candles and had a great time, graced by the addition of Jennifer Kimball and Rose Polenzani for a few numbers. Time flew by as it was a near perfect setting. And we did an encore of Rose's "You Were Drunk". Thanks to our hostess and host Marla Felcher and Max Bazerman for making us part of an evening well spent.
