Month of Tuesdays

There were five Tuesdays in January this year, and there are six guys in this band, so if the rythmn section don't really count, you can work the math out fine. We had decided to be our own special guests at the Lizard Lounge, and January was a month of Tuesdays so the math worked out fine. Seriously. The fifth Tuesday was bound to be crazy: Ry and his fiddle, Patty Griffin's bus, and Billy juggles hats.Make sure the house is cleared, the press is down, Patty's on home turf. The fifth Tuesday was worth waiting for...The rug was down, the table up and KC was at the bar. Yeah the crowd was loud, but who cares when Tom is at the desk. We argued what to play next but they didn't care...they just brought more beer, and then as Jen, Mrs. Kimball was setting down a diaphanous pint or two...We yelled hell yes! stay. She did, dueting with Ry like Buddy and Julie, Phil and Don on Cathy's Clown ( if they were married). The crowd leaned in, Doug from Patty's band was shoehorned in, by the kitten case...
Patty sang two songs. I think one was in G. I was just trying not to fall out of my chair. Patty sure can sing.
We took a little break so Ry could warm up his me, me, mes. After setting out to expand his command of the Prince catalogue, he picked up his fiddle and took a whack the Michael Hurley legacy as well. I'm not sure what "The Hog Will Be Forsaken" is all about but I sure love the part: "leave it for the ants". From Steven Foster to Liz Fair, Ry set some kinda of record. You know the mandicello is great for "Gavelston". Just ask Tanya Tucker, Ry can get pretty Lonely Orney and Mean...with Mark Chenevert in attendance and a Bob Seger show within 100 miles the "Turn the Page " rule was applied. Sean remembered all the lyrics and as I stumbled from the stage, Patty's road manager leans over, " I love the line that asks,'are you a boy or a girl?'" Chris Pappas picked up Nirvana and pointed to the end of the world as we know it, as we wobbled home on a Tuesday that had an awful lot, even a piano solo on Amelia Erhardt. Thanks Stroker. And thanks Tom, KC and Bill. But we couldn't a done it without you folks, aw shucks. git out, good night.
