when in the course of human events the president, it becomes clear,is an ass...we kick up our heels and assume the position Baby! No,We kick up our heels and ask you to join us. I know of an '82 VW camper van that is invintage conditionand ready to roll. And those who joined us at theLizard Lounge on Thursday heededthe call.We said straight ahead and loud; and they were, in all the right places. We said let's kill saturday night; and they said hell yeah, and Thursday too. Ramona Silver spit out the words to Country boy so fast, it was beautiful. They said help is on the way, Baby! We had a visitor from far away Vancouver, Alayna Howard. She was quoting Nina Simone, with her voice way down on the chain gang. (They said) she's gota lot ofwisdom in her voice for her age. Yeah how old is she? We all asked. There wereso many great singers whoshowed up and shared their songs with us that I don't know who had more fun us or the crowd that was there. Rose Polenzani. Mark Erelli. Sarah Siskind came all the way from Nashville to scare the bejesus out of us with a song she wrote called "Daddy. Definitely a good kind of scary. And as warmup for Friday night's show, Anais Mitchell and Sean sang a great duet of "Running to Stand Still". Marshall was reported to have said "one of the best SA shows ever". He's seen enough to know (Thanks man), but I think it was probably also one of the best audiences ever. (CUE MUSIC)
I love you man!
But seriously talking about VW campers sends me back to the '70's in Mendocino County. Look out it's an '82 meat-head! And it is driven by Anias Mitchell from Montpelier Vt. Our special guest for Friday Night. Yes Anais Mitchell. She comes out dressed to kill and starts fingerpicking this Towns Van Zandt song "Waitin' around here to Die". Spinal Tap had it wrong F# Minor is the saddest key. Still she had the U2 thing going with Red Hill Mining Town (We were going to play Bullet the Blue sky until I mentioned my idea for distorted and delayed harmonica). The story of the night though, was all the fantastic duets Anaissang. She had Rose up to sing Leonard Cohen's "Alexandra Leaving", and that Gillian Welch song about Elvis. She and Ry sang "Love Hurts" to die for and then they did some kinda Prince/Sinead thing on "Nothing Compares to You". Personally any night we play two Bob Wills Songs, two Waylon Jennings songs, one by Merle Haggard and one by George Jones and people like it, it's been a good night. Anais made it a great night. With the help of Katie Champagne singing "Satan's Jeweled Crown", and Sarah Suskind reprising "Daddy". Yeah I still get chills. Thanks to everyone who came down, KC and the Lizard. and to old fan and friend Stacey, Good luck in LA we will miss you.
